Cheatham County Central has gone a perfect 6-0 against Fairview recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cubs will be playing at home against the Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. Cheatham County Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
If Cheatham County Central beats Fairview with ten runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Cubs were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Sycamore on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cubs.
Rylee Knox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Georgia Hunter, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Gracie Weakley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cheatham County Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Fairview got themselves on the board against Sycamore on Tuesday, but Sycamore never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the War Eagles 2-0. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Yellowjackets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
The result came thanks to Maddie McGowan's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Fairview saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Ellison, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Another was Grace Fox, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Cheatham County Central pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Fairview, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Cheatham County Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Fairview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Cheatham County Central's way against Fairview in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Cheatham County Central made off with a 20-1 win. Do the Cubs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
