Softball Recap: Mallard Creek's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Mallard Creek never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against West Charlotte on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the West Charlotte Lions as they made off with a 20-12 win. The Mavericks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024.

Madison Williams and Alondra Rivera-Maldonado were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Williams struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Rivera-Maldonado struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Williams scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6, while Rivera-Maldonado scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Williams also put up three RBI, which were her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Lampkin, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Mena Kuzara was another key player, scoring five runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-6.

Mallard Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Charlotte only posted an OBP of .353.

Mallard Creek moved to 2-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for West Charlotte, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Mallard Creek will head out to face off against Porter Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Porter Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for West Charlotte, they will head out on the road to square off against West Mecklenburg at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Charlotte also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 9.5 runs per game.
