The Copper Canyon Aztecs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 58-48 victory over Washington. Winning may never get old, but Copper Canyon sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Copper Canyon was led to victory by Bri'ann Felix and Zalaya Dupre. Felix dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Dupre dropped a double-double on 29 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dupre has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jasmin Colter, who scored three points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Washington lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Amaya Yazzie, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaila Lee, who scored ten points.
Copper Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season. As for Washington, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Copper Canyon will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Chaparral is ranked 185th, while the Aztecs are ranked 183rd). As for Washington, they will head out on the road to square off against the Kings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
