Calhoun hasn't had much luck against Pittsfield recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Warriors will welcome the Saukees at 4:30 p.m. Calhoun is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
While Calhoun didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Brown County by a score of 9-5 on Thursday. Those nine runs were actually the fewest the Warriors have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Jack Zipprich was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Zipprich was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Jacob Kress looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Cooper Klocke was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Drew Wallendorf was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Calhoun kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Pittsfield made easy work of Mendon Unity on Monday and carried off a 12-5 victory. Considering the Saukees have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Calhoun, Pittsfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Hayden Gratton. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gratton was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kaden Ferguson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Lane Foster, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Calhoun pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Pittsfield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Calhoun hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Pittsfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Calhoun might still be hurting after the 15-1 defeat they got from Pittsfield in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
