A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Calhoun Tigers duke it out with the Central Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday... Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Calhoun was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 75-70 to Stanhope Elmore.
Calhoun might have lost, but man, Tyler Robertson was a machine: he almost dropped a double-double on 42 points and nine boards. That was a full 60% of Calhoun's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Robertson, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 15 points and five assists.
Meanwhile, Central came up short against Highland Home on Tuesday, falling 75-54. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Calhoun will need focus on slowing down Christian Lawrence, one of several Central players who made an impact when they last played. He had 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Iyanis Wallace, who put up 12 points and three steals.
Even though they lost, Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive contests.
Central's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5. As for Calhoun, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Calhoun just can't miss this season, having made 51.2% of their shots per game. It's a different story for Central, though, as they've only nailed 34.8% of their field goals this season. Given Calhoun's sizable advantage in that area, Central will need to find a way to close that gap.
Calhoun beat Central 75-64 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Will Calhoun repeat their success, or does Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
