Baseball Recap: Granite Falls Wins Going Away Against Darrington

While Granite Falls put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Darrington. The Tigers put the hurt on the Loggers with a sharp 10-0 win. Considering the Tigers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Drake Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Granite Falls is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, William Boyd was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Carson Brooks was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Granite Falls hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Darrington struck out eight times.

Granite Falls' victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-8. As for Darrington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Granite Falls will host Sultan at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Turks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.69 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Darrington, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Orcas Island at 11:30 a.m.
