Davis is 1-9 against Weber since September of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Darts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Davis not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since August 26th (when they won 3-0). They blew past Layton 3-0.
Davis didn't let Layton take a single set, but it sure wasn't easy: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.
Davis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kate Donigan, who had 16 assists and five digs. Zoey Walsh also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
Meanwhile, Weber entered their tilt with Farmington on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Phoenix. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted against the Phoenix since September 27, 2022.
Weber had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 23-25, 25-14, 25-21, 15-13.
Weber's win came from a few key players Davis will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Halee Zabriskie, who had 11 assists and seven digs. That's the most digs she has posted over her last eight contests.
Weber was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 22 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in 12 consecutive matches.
Weber's victory bumped their record up to 16-9. As for Davis, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Davis has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Weber struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Davis suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Weber when the teams last played two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Warriors' Tesyn Stewart, who had 13 digs and five aces. Now that the Darts know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
