Even though the Avon Orioles have not done well against the Ben Davis Giants recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Avon took down Ben Davis 65-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Avon.
Leading Avon to victory were Mya Thompson and Aniah Smith. Thompson scored 20 points, while Smith dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Smith's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Wren, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Ben Davis lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Scottlynn Johnson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleia Sultzer, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ben Davis were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
The win got Avon back to even at 8-8. As for Ben Davis, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will take on Franklin Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Franklin Central is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Ben Davis, they will be playing at home against Pike at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
