Marion County has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Covenant Christian Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Marion County rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Panthers 73-35 at home. Given Marion County's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Hackleburg is ranked 402nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tye Madison continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 1 assist. He hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Vondrell Swanigan, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Covenant Christian came tearing into Saturday's game with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 72-51 margin over Meek.
Marion County has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. As for Covenant Christian, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-8.
