Basketball Recap: Eaton Piles Up the Points Against La Junta

With a playoff win on the line, Eaton rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the La Junta Tigers 54-17. The Reds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

Eaton was led to victory by Courtney Steinkamp and Saryiah Gaona. Steinkamp posted 17 points along with six boards and three steals, while Gaona went 5-for-6 en route to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. What's more, Gaona also posted an 83% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January of 2024. Haleigh Stanclift also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Eaton was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They are 13-1 when they've passed the ball that well.

Eaton has been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points over those games. La Junta is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-13.

Eaton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 38-35 loss against Colorado Academy on the 8th. La Junta does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
