Softball Game Preview: Pleasant Hill Wolves vs. Routt Catholic Rockets

The Pleasant Hill Wolves will venture away from home to face off against the Routt Catholic Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pleasant Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.

Pleasant Hill is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Pittsfield just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Saukees by a score of 4-3. Wolves fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Saukees since on Tuesday.

Ava Wombles put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn Borrowman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Routt Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 8-4 to North Greene.

Routt Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Pleasant Hill, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 8-3.

Everything went Pleasant Hill's way against Routt Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Pleasant Hill made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
