The West Las Vegas Dons will face off against the Valley Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. West Las Vegas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
While West Las Vegas' victory against Robertson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dons had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 6-5 on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Dons as they're now sitting on three straight.
Malie Satete made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Pacheco, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Another player making a difference was Tyra Horner, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
West Las Vegas hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robertson struck out eight times.
Valley came out on top against Hope Christian on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Vikings put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Vikings have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Aaliyah Diggs was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Naliyah Mora was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
West Las Vegas' win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Valley, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-12 record.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Las Vegas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .427. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
