Mayfield has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Carlsbad Cavemen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
Mayfield stacked a fifth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard. They were the clear victor by a 53-31 margin over Deming. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Mayfield has posted against Deming since April 10, 2021.
Mayfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jazlene Ruiz, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Ruiz is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Lorrena Viarreal was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad's three-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They snuck past Lovington with a 43-37 win. The win was just what Carlsbad needed coming off of a 63-35 defeat in their prior contest.
Mayfield is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Carlsbad, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-6.
Mayfield came up short against Carlsbad when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 49-38. Can Mayfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
