Basketball Recap: Penn Cambria Comes Up Short

Penn Cambria was the 55-50 winner over Westmont Hilltop when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Penn Cambria Panthers received a blow on Monday as they fell 65-50 to the Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers. The Panthers were down 57-35 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Penn Cambria saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sophia Beard posted nine points. The dominant performance also gave Beard a new career-high in assists (three). Reagan Ronan was another key player, putting up six points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Penn Cambria smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Penn Cambria's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Westmont Hilltop, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Penn Cambria will venture away from home to challenge Bedford at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Penn Cambria is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season. Westmont Hilltop has already played their next match (against Forest Hills), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
