Serena Gillen spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Florida Christian's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Diaz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Westminster Christian let Oxbridge Academy stack five runs on them in the third inning on Tuesday but luckily Westminster Christian prevailed anyway. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the ThunderWolves.
The team relied heavily on Gigi Khoury, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Erin Perez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Westminster Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oxbridge Academy only managed eight hits.
Westminster Christian pushed their record up to 19-7-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Florida Christian, their win bumped their record up to 19-8.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Florida Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Westminster Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Florida Christian took their victory against Westminster Christian in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
