Cartersville is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Coffee is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Cartersville Hurricanes will take on the Coffee Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cartersville walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 35-0 win over the Warriors at home. Given Cartersville's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Jenkins is ranked 121st), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Khristian Lando and Andrew Purdy were among the main playmakers for Cartersville as the former rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, Coffee never let their opponents score on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cass 30-0 at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Coffee just coasted through the last quarter.
Coffee relied on the efforts of Tyrese Hansley, who rushed for 49 yards and three touchdowns, and Fred Brown, who rushed for 173 yards. Brown is absolutely dominating the rushing yard category: he's posted at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season.
Coffee's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Chris Reed and Mykevius Smith who racked up five sacks between them.
Their wins bumped Cartersville to 13-0 and Jenkins to 5-8.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Cartersville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 192.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Coffee struggles in that department as they've been even better at 264.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches. Everything came up roses for Cartersville against Coffee in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 56-28 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Coffee's Antwain Mcduffie, who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Cartersville to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
