The Conway Springs Cardinals will face off against the Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Conway Springs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Conway Springs is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Belle Plaine on Monday as they made off with a 25-5 win. The Cardinals have beaten the Dragons the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Dragons has come to flipping the script.
Joslin Bartelson was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Bartelson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Delaney Jones was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Raylee Chitwood was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Conway Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cedar Vale/Dexter strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against Uniontown by a score of 4-1.
Like Conway Springs, Cedar Vale/Dexter also got a great game from a two-way player: Zoe Davidson. On the mound, she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Davidson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Davidson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn Lampson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Cedar Vale/Dexter's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Conway Springs, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Conway Springs has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cedar Vale/Dexter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Conway Springs suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Cedar Vale/Dexter in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Cardinals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
