Softball Recap: River Mill's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

River Mill had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They never let the Ascend Leadership Aviators get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. Considering the Jaguars have won six matches by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lexi Melton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in triples (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Summer Basden, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maggie Williamson, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

River Mill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

River Mill pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Ascend Leadership, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as River Mill Jaguars face off against Cornerstone Charter Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ascend Leadership does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
