Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Eupora Eagles, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by Calhoun City 58-6 on Friday. Eupora was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-6.
Bj Cork threw for 53 yards and a touchdown. Peezy Pittman was his top target, picking up 73 receiving yards and a touchdown.
It was another big night for Jamajah Mayes, who rushed for 224 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Mayes was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Xavian Pittman was another major influence, as he rushed for 79 yards and ran in a TD.
Eupora's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-3 Choctaw County and 12-4 Charleston (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.9% over those games). As for Calhoun City, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Eupora does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Calhoun City will face off against North Side at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Side is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
