Spooner is 8-2 against Cumberland since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Rails will face off against the Beavers at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Cumberland will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Spooner extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday. The Rails' pitchers stepped up to hand Chetek-Weyerhaeuser an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Rails have won five games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cumberland). They put the hurt on Ashland with a sharp 18-4 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Beavers in their matchups with the Oredockers: they've now won nine in a row.
Morgan Monchilovich made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Monchilovich was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Cumberland got a massive performance out of Raegan Beecroft, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Beecroft a new career-high. Macy Beecroft was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Cumberland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Spooner pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Cumberland, their record is now 8-6.
Spooner came out on top in a nail-biter against Cumberland in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rails since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
