Big Spring's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the Liberty Patriots 18-4. The result was nothing new for the Steers, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Alexa Ontiveros made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Monse Holguin looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk).
Back at the plate, Big Spring let Analia Hinojosa and K Speck run wild. Hinojosa went 3-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs, while Speck went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave Speck a new career-high. Elena Lopez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Big Spring was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Big Spring now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Liberty, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.
Big Spring will head out to take on Estacado at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Steers are facing the Matadors at the right time seeing as the Matadors are stuck on an 18-game losing streak. As for Liberty, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Snyder at 5:00 p.m.
