Scott Central hasn't had much luck against Puckett recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Rebels will head out to face off against the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Scott Central and Newton, and Scott Central kept the tradition alive. The Rebels walked away with a 9-5 win over the Tigers on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won eight in a row.
Kip Frey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Scott Central let Kevin Butler and Colt Frey run wild. Butler went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases and four runs, while Frey went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. With that strong performance, Frey is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Dabron Wash also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Puckett came out on top against Sebastopol on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run third inning. The Wolves never let the Bobcats get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. Considering the Wolves have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Truitte Carter, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Myles Martin was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Puckett always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .526 or higher in four consecutive games.
Scott Central's record now sits at 2-11. As for Puckett, their record is now 18-3.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Scott Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .517. However, it's not like Puckett struggles in that department as they've averaged .484. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Scott Central couldn't quite finish off Puckett in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 15-13. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
