After both having extra time off, the Horizon Honors Eagles and the Valley Christian Trojans will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Horizon Honors proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a set and slipped past BASIS Phoenix 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 7th.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian entered their tilt with Leading Edge Academy - GEC on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Spartans.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Valley Christian took every set by at least ten points. The final score came out to 25-11, 25-15, 25-15.
Horizon Honors better keep an eye on Travis Christy. He was instrumental in Valley Christian's win, getting 14 digs and one assist. That's the most digs Christy has posted over his last six games.
Valley Christian was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in three consecutive contests.
Valley Christian pushed their record up to 16-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Horizon Honors, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-14 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Horizon Honors has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7 aces per game. However, it's not like Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Horizon Honors might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Valley Christian in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
