The Ellsworth Eagles will face off against the Brewer Witches at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Ellsworth is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Washington Academy, who was ranked second at the time (Ellsworth was ranked 19th). The Eagles lost 3-0 to the Raiders on Saturday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-7, 25-14.
Meanwhile, Brewer entered their tilt with Cony on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Rams 3-0.
Brewer walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the second set). The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-15, 25-18.
Ellsworth better keep an eye on Molly Lagasse. She was instrumental in Brewer's win, getting ten digs.
Brewer was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 13 aces in six consecutive matches.
Ellsworth now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Brewer, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Ellsworth has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 13.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Brewer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 16.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Ellsworth couldn't quite get it done against Brewer in their previous meeting back in September as they fell 3-1. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
