The Boone Braves gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 53-31 margin over East River. Given Boone's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while East River is ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Mckenna Murphy, who scored 16 points. Danika Ballard was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Yariana Lugo Perez, who scored 10 points. Lugo Perez scored a full 32.3% of East River's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keilani Serrano, who scored 9 points.
Boone's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for East River, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Boone will head out on the road to face off against Colonial at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Colonial is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.8 points per game. As for East River, they will be playing at home against Cypress Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
