Basketball Recap: Sawyer Epps' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Timberlake Christian over Westover Christian Academy

Timberlake Christian was the 56-44 winner over Westover Christian Academy when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The match between the Timberlake Christian Tornadoes and the Westover Christian Academy Bulldogs didn't end well, with the Timberlake Christian Tornadoes falling 62-43. The Tornadoes just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Several Tornadoes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sawyer Epps, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Epps is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last six games he's played. Jonathan Dowd was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Timberlake Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Caleb Hill continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Westover Christian Academy, going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 28 points and eight boards. That's the most points Hill has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Waller, who posted seven points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.

Timberlake Christian now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Westover Christian Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Timberlake Christian will square off against Faith Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Timberlake Christian is facing Faith Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Faith Christian Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Westover Christian Academy, they will challenge New Covenant at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Westover Christian Academy has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 183 points over their last three games.
