Newport took down Bishop Brossart 54-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Newport Central Catholic made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,950 from 6,065. The advance stemmed from a 63-22 victory over Lloyd Memorial last week.
Holy Cross's Mitch Trail and Burt Pouncy have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A District 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Trail has thrown for 581 yards this season, while Pouncy, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 19 catches for 359 yards. Jacob Elbert from the Mustangs leads the league in rushing with 1093 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Wildcats take on the Thoroughbreds. At the moment, Newport is in third, while Newport Central Catholic is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Bishop Brossart and the Indians face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Matt Reinhart's team comes in having scored 104 this season, while Holy Cross has scored 216. The Mustangs scored 8 points last week as they lost to Nick Rice's team.
Eddie Eviston 's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on the Juggernauts.
