Softball Recap: Southwest Dekalb Wins Going Away Against Lithonia

Southwest DeKalb's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They blew past the Lithonia Bulldogs 18-0. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Jasmin Josey and Makayla Dixon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Josey tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Dixon tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Josey has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Josey went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Dixon fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those seven RBI gave Dixon a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chrissee Taylor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Nyla Denbow also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Southwest DeKalb hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lithonia struck out eight times.

Southwest DeKalb's record is now 5-1. As for Lithonia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Southwest DeKalb will square off against St. Pius X Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Lions will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Lithonia, they will face off against Northview at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.44 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
