The Groesbeck Goats will be playing at home against the Fairfield Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Groesbeck had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Kemp 56-0 on the road. Given Groesbeck's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 445th, while Kemp is ranked 1013th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Meanwhile, Fairfield was able to grind out a solid win over Mexia on Friday, taking the game 22-15.
Fairfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Evan Chavers led the charge by rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Cameron Cockerell was another key contributor, throwing for 144 yards and two touchdowns.
Groesbeck has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in five of their first six matches, giving them a 5-1 record. As for Fairfield, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 2-5.
Groesbeck might still be hurting after the 28-7 defeat they got from Fairfield when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will Groesbeck have more luck at home instead of on the road?
