The Fernley Vaqueros's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Churchill County Greenwave at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
A well-balanced attack led Fernley over Spring Creek in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Fernley blew Spring Creek out of the water with a 66-26 final score. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Fernley had established a 39 point advantage.
Fernley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaiserita Otuafi led the charge by scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jasmyne Torres, who scored 18 points.
Fernley's lineup was just a bit different on Saturday as Irene Brown got a bit more time on the court (nine vs. her season average of 4.42). Brown made the most of the opportunity, scoring two points along with six rebounds. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Meanwhile, Churchill County blew past Dayton, posting a 48-18 win at home. Given Churchill County's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Dayton is ranked 62nd), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fernley's victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.1 points. As for Churchill County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Fernley against Churchill County in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 77-23 victory. With Fernley ahead 41-14 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
