DURHAM, N.C. -- USA Baseball and MaxPreps announced on Monday, the MaxPreps USA Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week Award winners for the week of April 18, 2016, bringing national recognition to the top-performing high school athletes in the country.
Representing eight national regions, -- Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest and West -- players are selected based upon stats that are submitted to MaxPreps.com by coaches and team administrators. For players to be nominated each week, their coach must enter the athlete's game stats into MaxPreps by Sunday evening. High school coaches may obtain an access code to enter stats for their teams at maxpreps.com/cl.
The winners for MaxPreps USA Baseball Player of the Week Award are as follows:
Great LakesPitcher of the Week:
Jesse Wainscott struck out 11 batters for Perry Meridian High School (Indianapolis, Ind.) to be named the USA Baseball/MaxPreps Great Lakes Pitcher of the Week. Wainscott, a sophomore, gave up no-runs and just one hit in the victory.
Player of the Week:
Levi Bott hit .812 for Madison-Grant High School (Fairmount, Ind.) to be named the USA Baseball/MaxPreps Great Lakes Player of the Week. Bott, a senior, went 13-for-16, hit six doubles, and had five RBIs. He finished the week with a .824 on-base percentage.
Mid-AtlanticPitcher of the Week:
Turner Delph struck out 28 batters in 12 innings of work for White Plains Christian School (Mount Airy, N.C.) to earn USA Baseball/MaxPreps Mid-Atlantic Pitcher of the Week honors. Delph, a junior, gave up zero earned runs and walked just five hitters to go 2-0 on the week.
Player of the Week:
Dioanny Mejia hit .909 for Frankford High School (Philadelphia, Pa.) to earn USA Baseball/MaxPreps Mid-Atlantic Player of the Week honors. Mejia, a sophomore, went 10-for-11 with five RBIs, one home run, and scored nine runs.
MidwestPitcher of the Week:
Talon Little pitched a complete-game no-hitter for Lincoln Northeast High School (Lincoln, Neb.) to earn USA Baseball/MaxPreps Midwest Pitcher of the Week honors. Little, a junior, struck out eight and walked one batter in the victory.
Player of the Week:
Hayden Helvey batted 1.000 for Arcadia Valley High School (Ironton, Mo.) to earn USA Baseball/MaxPreps Midwest Player of the Week honors. Helvey, a senior, went 6-for-6 with seven runs scored, four RBIs, and four walks.
NortheastPitcher of the Week: Hendrick Khoury struck out 11 batters for Fitch Senior High School (Groton, Conn.) to be named the USA Baseball/MaxPreps Northeast Pitcher of the Week. Khoury, a junior, gave up just one hit in seven innings in the victory.
Player of the Week: Chris Mormile hit .778 for Wildwood High School (Wildwood, N.J.) to be named the USA Baseball/Max Preps Northeast Player of the Week. Mormile, a senior, went 7-for-9 with seven runs scored, eight RBIs, three home runs, and four walks. He finished the week with a 2.222 slugging percentage.
NorthwestPitcher of the Week:
Evan Finley struck out 12 batters in five innings of hitless baseball for Peyton High School (Peyton, Colo.) to earn USA Baseball/MaxPreps Northwest Pitcher of the Week honors. Finley, a senior, gave up just one walk in the victory.
Player of the Week:
Will McKissick went 5-for-6 with two home runs for Kent Denver School (Englewood, Colo.) to earn USA Baseball/MaxPreps Northwest Player of the Week honors. McKissick, a senior, tallied seven RBIs and scored six runs.
SoutheastPitcher of the Week:
Jonah Scolaro pitched a complete-game no-hitter for Durant High School (Plant City, Fla.) to be named the USA Baseball/MaxPreps Southeast Pitcher of the Week. Scolaro, a junior, struck out 13 batters and walked four in the victory.
Player of the Week:
Taft Louis hit .833 for Mandeville High School (Mandeville, La.) to be named the USA Baseball/MaxPreps Player of the Week. Louis, a senior, went 5-for-6 and hit two home runs. He finished the week with six RBIs and a 2.000 slugging percentage.
SouthwestPitcher of the Week: Travis James struck out 18 batters over nine innings for Pima High School (Pima, Ariz.) to earn USA Baseball/MaxPreps Southwest Pitcher of the week honors. James, a junior, allowed just two hits and no walks in the victory.
Player of the Week:

WestPitcher of the Week:
William Smiley pitched seven innings of no-hit baseball for Crescenta Valley High School (La Crescenta, Calif.) to be named the USA Baseball/MaxPreps West Pitcher of the Week. Smiley, a sophomore, struck out nine and walked one batter.
Player of the Week:
Miles Tomczak went a perfect 7-for-7 with nine RBIs for Argonaut High School (Jackson, Calif.) to be named the USA Baseball/MaxPreps West Player of the Week. Tomczak, a junior, hit two home runs, walked twice, and scored three runs.
