The Saxony Lutheran Crusaders's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Delta Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Saxony Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Saxony Lutheran came up short against Gibault Catholic and fell 44-36. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Saxony Lutheran came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 177th in Missouri, while Gibault Catholic is ranked 397th in Illinois).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was John Hartmann, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Bucheit, who scored ten points.
Saxony Lutheran struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Delta scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Eagle Ridge Christian 95-42 at home. The win was just what Delta needed coming off of a 86-62 defeat in their prior game.
Saxony Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Delta, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for Saxony Lutheran against Delta when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 97-38 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Saxony Lutheran since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
