Brentsville District has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Kettle Run Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Brentsville District got themselves on the board against Skyline, but Skyline never followed suit. They blew past the Hawks 37-0 at home. Given Brentsville District's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Skyline is ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Caleb Alexander had an outrageously good game as he threw for 91 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Brentsville District also got a significant boost from Nico Orlando, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 140 yards.
Meanwhile, Kettle Run put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 56-6 win over Fauquier.
Kettle Run's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colton Quaker, who rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Quaker is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Rodgers, who picked up 180 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Brentsville District's win was their 15th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Fauquier and 1-9 Meridian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.9% over those games). As for Kettle Run, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Brentsville District has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 172.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kettle Run struggles in that department as they've been even better at 220.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Brentsville District was dealt a bruising 38-7 defeat at the hands of Kettle Run in their previous matchup back in September of 2022. Can Brentsville District avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
