Cheyenne Mountain's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sam Hawker, who rushed for 76 yards and three scores, and also threw for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five passes. Those 106 passing yards gave Hawker a new career-high. Colt Kugler was another key rusher, rushing for 119 yards and two TDs on only 14 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cheyenne Mountain was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 402 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 226 rushing yards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.
Cheyenne Mountain didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Mason Godshall led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Taige Miller was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making four total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, while Sand Creek put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Thornton. The Scorpions claimed a resounding 61-0 win over the Trojans. Considering the Scorpions have won four matchups by more than 41 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Cheyenne Mountain better keep an eye on Ethan Mangrum. He was instrumental in Sand Creek's win, rushing for 199 yards and four scores on only nine carries. Mangrum's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 14th straight game with at least 100 rushing yards dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Treven Rick, who threw for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
One reason for the win was Sand Creek's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Achilles Evans was especially locked on to Thornton's QB and sacked him twice.
Cheyenne Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Sand Creek, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Cheyenne Mountain has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 326.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sand Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 349.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
