Taft School and Westminster School are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Big Red will face off against the Martlets at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Big Red fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They blew past Kingswood Oxford 9-2 on Saturday.
Taft School got a great performance from Bowen Oberle as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brandon Skerritt, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lander Uriarte, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Westminster School posted their closest win since April 16, 2025 on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Hotchkiss School 6-5. The Martlets haven't had any issues with the Bearcats recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Matthew Shea made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Shea was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Westminster School let Ethan Villacis and Monty Gantz run wild. Villacis went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double, while Gantz went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Gantz has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Holmes, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Taft School might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Westminster School in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Big Red avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
