The Vanden Vikings will challenge the Sheldon Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Vanden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Vanden's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Yamhill-Carlton. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.
Vanden let DJ Evans and KJ Horton run wild. Evans scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Horton scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Amiya Clay, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Vanden kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Sheldon had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 4-1. That's two games straight that the Huskies have won by exactly three runs.
Micah Kennedy made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, Sinitalela Heleta was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run. Kwinci Brown was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Vanden's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Sheldon, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vanden hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Sheldon struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Vanden's way against Sheldon in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, as Vanden made off with a 7-1 win. Does Vanden have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sheldon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
