It was a good run, but the Las Plumas Thunderbirds unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Corning. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Thunderbirds players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Martin Soria, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Jayden Webb, who scored 16 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Corning to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaidan Raker, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Raker has scored all season. Roman Bennett was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Las Plumas' loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Corning, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Las Plumas will take on Gridley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Gridley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matches. As for Corning, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Orland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Orland is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.4 points per game.
