The Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Elkhorn Valley Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Niobrara/Verdigre is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Niobrara/Verdigre suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on January 6th. They were dealt a 63-16 loss at the hands of Wausa. Niobrara/Verdigre was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-8.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Elkhorn Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 50-42 to Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard]. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elkhorn Valley has scored all season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kellyn Ollendick, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Korbin Werner, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Niobrara/Verdigre dropped their record down to 0-12 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road. As for Elkhorn Valley, their loss ended a 13-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-2.
Niobrara/Verdigre was dealt a bruising 67-24 defeat at the hands of Elkhorn Valley when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Niobrara/Verdigre, Brendyn Ollendick (who dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists) won't be suiting up this time.
