For the first time this season, Fredonia will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to face off against the Olean Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Fredonia came out on top against Gowanda on April 7th thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run seventh inning. The Hillbillies blew past the Panthers 12-1. The victory continues a trend for the Hillbillies in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
Anna Delcamp was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Delcamp was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Muck and Rihanna Benner did most of the damage at the plate: Muck went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Benner went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Cassidy Cramer was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Olean had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Gators by a score of 9-6.
Like Fredonia, Olean also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Edwards. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off 12 hits. Edwards has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Olean let Anna Bates and Amelia Jones run wild. Bates went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Jones went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Bates a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Sudbrook, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Olean hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.
Olean's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Fredonia, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Fredonia took their victory against Olean in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Hillbillies repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
