The Dwyer Panthers entered their tilt with the Martin County Tigers with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. Dwyer took down Martin County 68-54 on Thursday. Given Dwyer's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Martin County is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dwyer's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amari Nealy led the charge by scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds. The match was Nealy's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaironn Speights, who scored nine points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Dwyer's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for Martin County, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Dwyer will take on Westwood Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Westwood Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Martin County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Wharton at 4:00 p.m. on January 13th.
