The Western Christian Pioneers will square off against the Perrydale Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Western Christian has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 18.
Western Christian lost 21-9 to Country Christian on Wednesday.
Western Christian saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rose Pederson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That run marked the first that Pederson has scored this season. Eloise Adams was another, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
While Perrydale didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Colton on Wednesday as they made off with a 20-10 win. Considering the Pirates have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Isabelle Arthur made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Arthur was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Perrydale got a massive performance out of Addie Parr, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and two doubles. With that strong performance, Parr is now averaging an impressive 2.3 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Reese Zamora, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Perrydale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colton only posted an OBP of .474.
The victory made it two in a row for Perrydale and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Western Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Western Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Perrydale struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Western Christian suffered a grim 21-6 defeat to Perrydale in their previous meeting on April 2nd. Will the Pioneers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
