Bella Urbina made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Savanna Hernandez was a standout: she fired off two home runs, five runs, and four RBI while going 5-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katrina Olmedo, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.
St. Monica kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Ramona Convent had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Cardinals.
The team relied heavily on Aiden Velazquez, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Citlali Garcia was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
St. Monica is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Ramona Convent, their record is now 13-5.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Monica has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .562. However, it's not like Ramona Convent struggles in that department as they've averaged .561. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went St. Monica's way against Ramona Convent in their previous meeting back in March, as St. Monica made off with a 10-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mariners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
