They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the New Providence Pioneers. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Matt Rugel tossed a big game, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
At the plate, Gavin Bruno was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Dobrzynski, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI.
Vernon's win bumped their record up to 16-6. As for New Providence, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Vernon will head out to challenge Emerson at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Providence, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Hackettstown at 12:00 p.m.
