The Gateway Eagles will square off against the Oasis Sharks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gateway will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
On Thursday, Gateway got the win against East Lee County by a conclusive 20-4. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Krizha Fredeluces was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Wutkowski, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Oasis fell victim to Cape Coral and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Seahawks. The Sharks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kyra Cavender spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Oasis saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn McGee, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Gateway's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Oasis, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gateway has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .579. However, it's not like Oasis struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gateway might still be hurting after the 17-7 loss they got from Oasis in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will Gateway have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
