Baseball Game Preview: Mission Hills Grizzlies vs. Classical Academy Caimans

Mission Hills is a perfect 4-0 against Classical Academy since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Mission Hills will be taking part in a tournament against Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mission Hills was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Rancho Buena Vista. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 20, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Jaxson Jenkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Mission Hills is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-4 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Micah Mecucci, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.

Meanwhile, Classical Academy earned a 7-4 victory over Southwest EC on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Caimans in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Aidan Suitor and Trevor Hoff did most of the damage at the plate: Suitor scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Hoff scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Justus Smith, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Mission Hills' victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5. As for Classical Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Mission Hills skirted past Classical Academy 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Does Mission Hills have another victory up their sleeve, or will Classical Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
