The East Peoria Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Canton 75-42. While losing is never fun, East Peoria can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 386th, while Canton is ranked 57th).
Canton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ava Wenger, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Wenger scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jena Goforth, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
East Peoria has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 16 of their last 18 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Canton, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6.
East Peoria will take on Dunlap at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Canton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bloomington at 6:30 p.m. on January 20th. Bloomington will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
