Clay City is a perfect 9-0 against Eastern Greene since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eels will look to defend their home field against the Thunderbirds at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clay City has four straight wins, Eastern Greene has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Clay City got the win against Bloomfield by a conclusive 9-3. The Eels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Lizzy Sinders spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Clay City let Ellie Stoelting and Kambryn Rhodes run wild. Stoelting went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Rhodes went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits Rhodes has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Karlee Smith, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Eastern Greene came up short against Orleans on Wednesday, falling 11-2.
Eastern Greene saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Ramey, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Clay City pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern Greene, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
Eastern Greene's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clay City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Eastern Greene, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Clay City's sizable advantage in that area, the Thunderbirds will need to find a way to close that gap.
Clay City took their victory against Eastern Greene when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Eels repeat their success, or do the Thunderbirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
