Lyons has gone 9-1 against Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Lions will head out to square off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Lyons is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Lyons got the win against Silver Creek by a conclusive 14-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Gretta Wynja made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Wynja was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lyons got a massive performance out of Dahlia Oviatt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most runs Oviatt has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Ava Vasquez, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles.
Meanwhile, Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 11-4 to Platte Valley. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Vikings have suffered against the Broncos since September 13, 2022.
Adrianne O'Dell and Sophia Rodriguez did some serious damage despite the final result: O'Dell went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That double marked the first that O'Dell has hit this season. Danica Flesner was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Lyons' win bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.
Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lyons has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Valley, though, as they've been averaging 13.2 hits. Given Lyons' sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lyons took their victory against Valley in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
