The San Juan Broncos will face off against the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Juan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
San Juan will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Friday, then bounced right back against Gunnison Valley on Friday. The Broncos came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 12-9.
Corbin Middlton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Middlton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Talon Mendoza, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Cooper Palmer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run.
San Juan lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Montezuma-Cortez came up short against Durango on Tuesday and fell 7-4.
Michael Krupa was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Darren Daves, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
San Juan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Montezuma-Cortez, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. San Juan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Montezuma-Cortez struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
San Juan took their victory against Montezuma-Cortez in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
