The Fordham Prep Rams will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Xavier Knights at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. Fordham Prep will be strutting in after a victory while Xavier will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Tuesday, Fordham Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Edmund Prep, taking the game 55-43. Given Fordham Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while St. Edmund Prep is ranked 328th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matthew Kapfer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 31 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Herlick, who scored four points along with eight assists and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Xavier's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Regis.
Fordham Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for Xavier, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Fordham Prep won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, slipping by Xavier 55-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fordham Prep since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
